Dorsey, Shaffelburg Earn Toronto FC Debuts In CONCACAF Champions League

The Canadian side opened its CCL campaign with a 4-0 defeat to CA Independiente

TAMPA, Fla. - Former USL League Two players Griffin Dorsey and Jacob Shaffelburg earned their first appearances for Toronto FC on Tuesday night during the club's 4-0 defeat against CA Independiente in the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League.

Dorsey, who was selected in the first round of the 2019 MLS SuperDraft by Toronto, started the match for the Canadian side and played 77 minutes.

Meanwhile, Shaffelburg was substituted into the match in the 57th minute when he replaced Astone Morgan. Shaffelburg signed a contract with USL League One side Toronto FC II in November, but has also spent time with the club's first team throughout preseason.

Toronto will play the second leg of its CCL Round of 16 encounter against CA Independiente on Feb. 26 at BMO Field.
