Eight of first 10 picks included players previously playing in USL League Two

CHICAGO, Ill. - Major League Soccer held the first and second rounds of the 2019 MLS SuperDraft on Friday, which included 41 selections of players that previously resided in USL League Two.

Among the players drafted in the first round were Siad Haji of Virginia Commonwealth, Florida International's Santiago Patino, Charlotte's Callum Montgomery and Denver's Andre Shinyashiki, who were each drafted in the top 5 this year.

Both Haji and Shinyashiki were recently selected to sign Generation adidas contracts, a mechanism that allows MLS clubs to sign prospects without counting against the salary cap.

Eight of the first 10 selections in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft included players that previously played in League Two, while 22 of the 24 first round picks were from League Two.

Meanwhile, the first 10 selections of the second round all included players with USL League Two experience. Former Westchester Flames defender Sean Neallis was selected 25th overall by the New York Red Bulls, while Sergio Rivas and Kamal Miller were chosen soon after in Round 2.

Below, we recap the first two rounds of 2019 MLS SuperDraft action.
