Former Air Force midfielder closing in on MLS SuperDraft selection

Tucker Bone has taken a significantly different path from many other players in the 2019 MLS Combine, however that isn't a bad thing. The Air Force midfielder is coming off of an impressive 2018 campaign, capping off a stellar four-year career for the Falcons.

While Bone isn't the first, and likely won't be the last, military member selected in an MLS SuperDraft, Bone is a unique breed as he prepares to enter the professional ranks.

He enters the draft process a greatly-polished and disclipined player. He's very skilled on the ball. He's vocal on the field. He's a leader. These things are all evident when watching Bone orchestrate an attack or go into a challenge.

An All-American during his senior season, Bone fully intends on pursuing his MLS dream when the SuperDraft begins in Chicago on Jan. 11, despite his obligations to the Air Force once he graduates.

"First of all, I hope to go in the draft," Bone told USLLeagueTwo.com. "The Air Force has some programs that I can work through administratively that will allow me to play at the next level.

"I'm just hoping those things fall in the right place, and from all the information I've gathered so far I will be able to play."

Bone, 23, has helped improve his game during the college offseason as well during his USL League Two experience with Colorado Pride Switchbacks U23.

It was that experience that he believes helped take him to the "next level."

"It was a huge stepping stone for me," Bone said. "It was an experience that really helped me take my game to the next level in college. I was playing with and against a lot of great players, and just the speed of the game, it really helped me improve as a player."

Although the Combine experience is short-lived, Bone says it's something he'll always cherish.

"The Combine has been an awesome experience," Bone said. "I've just been trying to soak it all in from the accommodations to being on the field with many of the best college players from around the country.

"It's been a lot of fun getting to work with these guys, especially the ones on my team [Team Nemeziz]. I'll be looking back on this for a long time to come."
