Club rebranded from West Virginia Chaos after 2018 USL League Two season

TAMPA, Fla. – Ahead of the 2019 USL League Two season, the league has announced that West Virginia Chaos has rebranded its club to become West Virginia Alliance FC as part of a club and statewide soccer restructure.

The club, owned by Joe Johns, will continue to compete in the Great Lakes Division next season following their restructuring.

West Virginia Alliance FC has also revealed Daniel Smee as the club’s head coach ahead of the 2019 campaign following a professional playing career in Scotland with Scottish Premier League side Gretna FC. Smee is currently head coach at the University of Charleston, and has also coached across college soccer in the United States, including spending time with Slippery Rock University and West Virginia Wesleyan.

“We are thrilled to see what Joe [Johns] and this organization are building in the state of West Virginia,” USL League Two Vice President Joel Nash said. “The club’s commitment to its youth landscape and overriding community is exactly what the league prides itself on, and we are very excited to continue to see the impact West Virginia Alliance FC is having in its region.”

Alliance FC has united former PDL side West Virginia Chaos with Charleston Football Club and Fury Soccer Club in an effort to create an elite training system throughout the state of West Virginia that will serve a variety of age groups ranging from toddlers through adult players.

“This is a massive day for our club because it helps further our ongoing engagement with the community,” Johns said. “The biggest thing for us has always been about finding the best ways to incorporate our local families and youth in this club, and I believe we’ve found a great opportunity to grow the club even further all throughout West Virginia.”
