ORLANDO, Fla. – Janos Loebe’s anticipated journey to Major League Soccer has been unconventional, but the former USL League Two and Fordham product has proven himself consistent and pro ready in his brief time in the United States.

Raised in Kierspe, Germany, Loebe, like many other young players growing up in Europe and around the world, had aspirations of playing at the highest level in his home country. That included playing semi-professionally for Wuppertaller SV of Regionalliga West.

Although those plans haven’t panned out to this point, Loebe has found himself in a very successful position heading into the 2019 MLS SuperDraft following a tremendous four-year career at Fordham, which began because of his older brother – Jannik.

Jannik – who also spent four years at the New York-based Division I program – helped show Janos the opportunities that the U.S. presented after the duo grew up in Germany, and Janos hasn’t looked back since.

“I’m very grateful for my time at Fordham and having the chance to play with my brother,” Loebe told USLLeagueTwo.com. “I enjoyed my four years with the program and feel I really made a great contribution to the program.

“I think I’ve really tuned my game and look forward to what comes next in my career with the MLS Draft.”

Loebe, 24, has excelled early on in his 2019 MLS Combine experience, scoring a goal in Team Copa’s 4-1 defeat against Team Nemeziz on Day 1.

That should not surprise many though considering Loebe's production throughout college, which included 26 goals and 31 assists across his four years with the Rams.

“We have a lot of talented players here, but it’s hard to get adjusted to each other so quickly,” Loebe said after the match. “I think we’ll continue to develop chemistry with our group as the week goes on, and be a lot more productive in our next game when we’re back together.”

For Loebe, there are several familiar faces joining him in Orlando both from his collegiate and USL League Two (formerly PDL) experience.

Goalkeepers Rashid Nuhu and Dayne St. Clair are each attending the MLS Combine, with St. Clair paired with Loebe on Team Copa, while Loebe’s former Fordham teammate – Nuhu – is suiting up for Team Nemeziz.

“I obviously didn’t play a lot of games in PDL (now USL League Two), but I really enjoyed the competition and experience of the league.” Loebe said. “There are so many skilled players in the league, and I was able to develop a lot of good relationships from my time there, so I am very thankful for that.”

Loebe and the rest of the Combine invitees will return to the field in Orlando on Monday for a series of training sessions before playing their final match on Wednesday at Orlando City Stadium.
