TAMPA, Fla. - Louisville City FC earned a 1-0 victory against Phoenix Rising FC to capture its second-consecutive USL Cup on Thursday night. Louisville forward Luke Spencer scored the game-winning goal for the hosts in the 62nd minute to guide the Eastern Conference side to back-to-back championships.
Spencer, 27, began his career in the Premier Development League (soon to be USL League Two) with the Cincinnati Kings before moving onto FC Cincinnati and eventually Louisville City.
The Germany-native earned USL Cup MVP honors for his finish, following a campaign where Spencer scored seven goals on 27 shots.
Spencer replaced striker Cameron Lancaster in the starting lineup ahead of USL Cup due to an injury sustained by the record goalscorer.
