TAMPA, Fla. - Former Premier Development League (soon to be USL League Two) and current Columbus Crew SC forward Gyasi Zardes earned MLS Comeback Player of the Year honors on Wednesday.
The award, which was comprised of voting between MLS players, club staff and media members, was given to Zardes after tallying 19 goals in 2018 for the Crew.
The U.S. Men's National Team forward topped Los Angeles Galaxy forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Seattle Sounders midfielder Osvaldo Alonso, Chicago Fire's Djordje Mihailovic and Toronto FC midfielder Jonathan Osorio, receiving 36.09% of the total votes.
Zardes, 28, began his career with Ventura County Fusion in PDL. During his time with the club, he scored 10 goals in 12 matches.
