TAMPA, Fla. — Five new faces appear on the third edition of the Premier Development League’s Top College Prospects list, which includes 43 high-level players from NCAA Division I and seven talented individuals from Division II.
Leading the new additions is Wake Forest midfielder Omir Fernandez, who joins Bruno Lapa, Brad Dunwell and Sam Raben as Demon Deacons named to the list. Fernandez excelled with the Colorado Rapids U23 in the 2018 PDL campaign, scoring five goals and recording three assists in four matches. Fernandez hasn’t slowed down since rejoining Wake Forest, as the talented midfielder has scored six goals and recorded one assist in seven games this season. He has been on of the key components for the team, which currently sits No. 1 in the latest edition of the NCAA DI United Soccer Coaches ranking.
New Mexico forward Matt Puig and Young Harris College midfielder Michael Rowe join Fernandez as new attacking talents named to the third edition of the Top College Prospects list. Puig, who featured for the OKC Energy U23 this summer, has scored three goals and provided three assists in seven games this college season. Rowe, meanwhile, is one of the top goalscorers in all of Division II, as the midfielder has netted 11 goals and recorded two assists to help Young Harris College to an undefeated 6-0-0 start to the season.
While one netminder falls out, two goalkeepers jump into this edition’s top 50. Luis Barraza and Paulo Pita have shined for their respective programs after featuring in the 2018 PDL regular season. Barraza, who played for Chicago FC United this summer, has made 16 saves and recorded a 0.49 goals-against average in four starts for Marquette this campaign. Pita, meanwhile, has recorded 19 saves and a 0.96 goals-against average through six games with Marshall.
The Top College Prospects list features the top 50 college-based individuals who have competed in the 2018 PDL campaign. The list will evolve over the course of the fall, with biweekly updates allowing players to raise their stock and earn recognition based on their collegiate play.
