NCAA DI kicks off with major top ten matchups in North Carolina

The 2018 collegiate season kicks off this weekend with NCAA Division I taking center-stage on Friday and Sunday.

40 of the 50 Top College Prospects named earlier this week take the field - several multiple times - to open their fall campaigns, with several high-level matches on display.

Here are a few must-see matchups this weekend, with a full list of the Top Prospects in action below.

Three Matches to Watch

(5) WAKE FOREST (0-0-0, ACC) VS. (2) INDIANA (0-0-0, Big Ten)

Friday, Aug. 24 - 7:30 p.m. ET - Watch Live

The best action of the weekend takes place on Friday and Sunday as the No. 3 ranked University of North Carolina hosts No. 5 ranked Wake Forest, No. 2 ranked Indiana and East Tennessee State University. On Friday - while UNC battles ETSU - Wake Forest clashes in a top-five showdown with Indiana as each teams seeks to establish early-season supremacy.

Top College Prospects take both sides of the field, as Demon Deacons defender Sam Raben tries to stop the attack of Colorado Rapids U23 teammate Griffin Dorsey and the Hoosiers. Also taking the field for Wake Forest is Michigan Bucks midfielder Brad Dunwell, who will hope to lead him team forward to a strong start.

(3) UNC (0-0-0, ACC) VS. (2) INDIANA (0-0-0, Big Ten)

Sunday, Aug. 26 - 7:30 p.m. ET - Watch Live

The other feature match of UNC's Carolina Nike Classic features the hosts themselves, as the Tar Heels take on Indiana - fresh off the latter's Friday match against Wake Forest. The second ACC-Big Ten showdown of the weekend features two of the top three teams in the nation and again features Top College Prospects on both sides of the field.

The hosts feature a trio of prominent PDL alumni, lead from the back by young goalkeeper Alec Smir - who competed with the Ocean City Nor'easters this summer and helped guide the club beyond the USL's Charlotte Independence in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Smir is joined by defender Alex Comsia and his Tobacco Road FC teammate Mustapha Wadda at forward - with the latter transferring into his first season at UNC. Indiana will again be led by Rapids U23 forward Griffin Dorsey.

PORTLAND (0-0-0, WCC) VS. SYRACUSE (0-0-0, ACC)

Sunday Aug. 26 - 10:30 p.m. ET - Watch Live

The third must-see match of the weekend features a cross-county, out-of-conference showdown between the Portland Pilots and Syracuse Orange late Sunday night. Portland was voted just outside the top 25 in the United Soccer Coaches poll to open the 2018 season, while the Orange seek to bounce back from a tough 2017 campaign with a win over highly-touted opposition.

Each side of the field will host a Top College Prospect, going up against one another in head-to-head fashion. In the back for the Orange will be Reading United AC defender Kamal Miller - fresh off a PDL Championship appearance earlier this month. Running at him in the Pilots attack will be Portland Timbers U23 forward Benji Michel - who led his PDL club with five goals this season - as each player tries to help their collegiate team rebound towards an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2018.
