2018 Semifinal Preview: Calgary Foothills FC vs. Chicago FC United

Western and Central Conference champions clash in Canada

Western Conference Champion Calgary Foothills FC will host the later of two Premier Development League National Semifinals on Saturday, July 28, facing off against Central Conference Champion Chicago FC United.

Foothills FC, who won its second conference title in three years, aim to repeat 2016's success, which saw the club reach the PDL Championship. Chicago FC United shocked everyone in their first playoff appearance, as the No. 4 seed took down the undefeated Des Moines Menace to clinch their conference title.

The two will meet Saturday at 9 p.m. ET (7 p.m. MT) in Calgary, Alberta at Foothills Composite High School in Okotoks. (Watch Live)

2018 PDL Playoffs: The Foothills defense remains perfect so far in postseason play, with the club yet to allow a goal, largely thanks to goalkeeper Marco Carducci. After defeating the Colorado Rapids U23, 1-0, on Ali Musse's 86th minute strike, the Foothills defeated FC Tucson with another clean sheet and goals from William Akio and Musse.

Top Performers: The team has one representative on the PDL Top Prospects list, as top goal-scorer Moses Danto currently sits as the No. 50 prospect league-wide with 11 goals and two assists through 10 appearances. Marco Carducci has been phenomenal in goal, as the young goalkeeper has posted a 0.48 goals-against average while making 29 saves through 13 appearances. The team's assist leaders are Carlos Patino and Nico Pasquotti, with eight and seven respectively. 

Team HistoryThe club made its PDL debut in 2015. Since their second season in 2016, the team has made three consecutive playoff appearances, including winning the Northwest Division and Western Conference Championship in 2016 and their second Northwest title this season.

2018 PDL Playoffs: Despite entering the Central Conference Championship as the No. 4 seed and heavy underdogs, Chicago FC United pulled off two stunning upsets. First, the club battled back from down 3-1 against the Dayton Dutch Lions, eventually winning 5-3 thanks to goals from Alex Alfaro, Max Todd, Connor Alba and two from Luka Prpa. Then Chicago took down the formerly undefeated PDL Regular Season champion Des Moines Menace, with a lone goal from Giann Magno as the difference-maker.

Top Performers: Chicago FC United's playoff roster features two Top Prospects, with Grant Stoneman at No. 25 and Luka Prpa at No. 34. Luke Haakenson and Jesus Perez lead the team in goals, with three apiece, and Xavier Gomez leading the team in assists and minutes played with 1,040.

Team History: Chicago FC United made its PDL debut in 2017, finishing fifth in the Heartland Division. This is the club's first playoff appearance and first Central Conference Championship.
