Red Bulls U23 move into first; Mutiny climb to second

After earning their 10th win of the 2017 Premier Development League regular season during Week 9, the New York Red Bulls U23 are the new No. 1 in this week's edition of the Eastern Conference Power Rankings.

The Red Bulls U23 are joined in the top five by Mid Atlantic Division foe Reading United AC, as well as South Atlantic Division sides Myrtle Beach Mutiny and Nashville SC U23 and Northeast Division leaders Seacoast United Phantoms.

Eastern Conference Top 5:

1. New York Red Bulls U23

Previous: No. 2
Week 9 Results: W 5-1 at Jersey Express
2017 PDL Record: 10-1-0
Week 10 Matches: at Ocean City Nor'easters (7 p.m. ET, July 9)
Overview: Jose Aguinaga handed the New York Red Bulls U23 their 10th victory of the 2017 season on Wednesday, scoring three goals while providing one assist in a 5-1 win against the Jersey Express. The Red Bulls U23, who are close to clinching the 2017 Mid Atlantic Division title, lead the PDL in goals scored this campaign with 38.


2. Myrtle Beach Mutiny

Previous: No. 4
Week 9 Results: W 1-0 vs. Charlotte Eagles, W 6-2 at Wilmington Hammerheads FC
2017 PDL Record: 8-1-2
Week 10 Matches: vs. North Carolina FC U23 (7 p.m. ET, July 5), at Carolina Dynamo (7 p.m. ET, July 8)
Overview: Unbeaten in seven consecutive matches, the Myrtle Beach Mutiny are one of the hottest teams across North America. Tobenna Uzo, ranked 44th on the third edition of the 2017 PDL Top Prospects list, continues to shine. The forward scored the game-winner against the Charlotte Eagles on June 27 and then scored three while also providing an assist in a 6-2 win against Wilmington Hammerheads FC on Saturday.


3. Seacoast United Phantoms

Previous: No. 1
Week 9 Results: L 1-2 vs. FC Boston
2017 PDL Record: 9-1-2
Week 10 Matches: None
Overview: The Seacoast United Phantoms fell for the first time this season during Week 9, but they still sit comfortably atop the Northeast Division and also clinched a PDL Playoffs spot due to results elsewhere in the division. They will have the week off before playing their final two matches during Week 11.


4. Reading United AC

Previous: No. 3
Week 9 Results: W 2-0 vs. Ocean City Nor'easters, L 0-1 at Ocean City Nor'easters
2017 PDL Record: 8-2-0
Week 10 Matches: at Lehigh Valley United (7:30 p.m. ET, July 5), vs. Jersey Express (7:30 p.m. ET, July 8)
Overview: Reading United AC's win streak came to an end against the Ocean City Nor'easters on Sunday, but Reading United still controls the head-to-head tiebreaker against their division rivals. In the race to clinch one of two Eastern Conference play-in round matches, Reading United will play Lehigh Valley United and Jersey Express twice to close out the regular season.


5. Nashville SC U23

Previous: Honorable Mention
Week 9 Results: T 1-1 vs. SC United Bantams
2017 PDL Record: 6-2-4
Week 10 Matches: at Tri-Cities Otters (7 p.m. ET, July 5)
Overview: The Nashville SC U23 recorded an important point to stay in contention for the South Atlantic Division title and a PDL Playoffs berth. Damilola Omitaomu scored the equalizer after the SC United Bantams took an early lead.
