Foothills FC climb into first place; Fuego rise

After recording two wins against the Sounders FC U23 in the Northwest Division, Calgary Foothills FC claims the No. 1 spot in the Western Conference Power Rankings following Week 8 action.

Mountain Division leader FC Tucson and three teams from the Southwest Division – the Fresno FuegoFC Golden State Force and San Francisco City FC – join the Foothills FC in this week's top five.

Western Conference Top 5:

1. Calgary Foothills FC

Previous: No. 3
Week 8 Results: W 2-1 vs. Sounders FC U23, W 1-0 vs. Sounders FC U23
2017 PDL Record: 7-1-2
Week 9 Matches: None
Overview: Calgary Foothills FC recorded two impressive victories against the Sounders FC U23 during Week 8. Dominic Russo, who was named to the 2016 PDL All-League Team, scored the first goal in the team's 2-1 win on Friday and then netted the game-winning goal on Sunday.


2. Fresno Fuego

Previous: No. 4
Week 8 Results: W 4-0 at Orange County SC U23, W 4-0 at Southern California Surf
2017 PDL Record: 8-2-0
Week 9 Matches: vs. San Francisco City FC (7:30 p.m. PT, July 1)
Overview: The Fresno Fuego recorded two 4-0 wins during Week 8 and moved into first in the Southwest Division. Alex Culwell scored a goal in each game for the Fuego, who face tough competition, including San Francisco City FC and the FC Golden State Force, to close out the season.


3. FC Golden State Force

Previous: No. 1
Week 8 Results: T 1-1 at Burlingame Dragons FC, L 1-2 at San Francisco City FC
2017 PDL Record: 7-1-2
Week 9 Matches: vs. Southern California Surf (7 p.m. PT, July 1)
Overview: The Force earned one point from two games during Week 8, but they still remain in contention for the Southwest Division title. Mark Verso continues to score goals for the Force this season, as he netted his seventh of the season in the team's 1-1 tie against Burlingame Dragons FC on Friday.


4. FC Tucson

Previous: No. 2
Week 8 Results: W 3-1 vs. Albuquerque Sol F.C.
2017 PDL Record: 6-2-1
Week 9 Matches: at Albuquerque Sol F.C. (7:30 p.m. MDT, July 1)
Overview: FC Tucson continued its winning ways in Week 8, as Danny Musovski, ranked 42nd on the 2017 PDL Top Prospects list, scored two goals in a win over Albuquerque Sol F.C. on Saturday. Tucson has now won four games in a row.


5. San Francisco City FC

Previous: No. 5
Week 8 Results: W 2-1 vs. FC Golden State Force
2017 PDL Record: 7-3-1
Week 9 Matches: at Fresno Fuego (7:30 p.m. PT, July 1)
Overview: San Francisco City FC earned its third consecutive win on Sunday, handing the Force their first loss of the 2017 PDL campaign. With the win, San Francisco remains in the hunt for a PDL Playoffs spot, but the club will need to see the Force or Fuego drop points in the next few weeks.
