Bucks claim No. 1 spot; Lions secure second following wins

The Michigan Bucks are the new No. 1 in the Central Conference Power Rankings following Week 8 action in the 2017 Premier Development League regular season.

The Bucks, winners of the 2016 PDL Championship, are joined in this week's edition by the St. Louis LionsDes Moines MenaceThunder Bay Chill and K-W United FC.

Central Conference Top 5:

1. Michigan Bucks

Previous: No. 2
Week 8 Results: T 0-0 at Derby City Rovers
2017 PDL Record: 5-1-2
Week 9 Matches: vs. Dayton Dutch Lions (7:30 p.m. ET, June 28), at K-W United FC (4 p.m. ET, July 2)
Overview: The Michigan Bucks are unbeaten in six games after earning a point on the road against the Derby City Rovers during Week 8. Anthony Mwembia made two saves, as the Bucks recorded their fifth shutout of the season.


2. St. Louis Lions

Previous: No. 4
Week 8 Results: W 1-0 at Saint Louis FC U23, W 3-0 Cincinnati Dutch Lions
2017 PDL Record: 6-2-1
Week 9 Matches: vs. Thunder Bay Chill (5 p.m. CT, July 1), vs. Thunder Bay Chill (2 p.m. CT, July 2)
Overview: Unbeaten in five consecutive games, the St. Louis Lions have taken control of first place in the Heartland Division after eight weeks of PDL play. Vadim Cojocov, who scored a hat trick in the Lions' win against the Cincinnati Dutch Lions on Sunday, leads the club with eight goals this season.


3. K-W United FC

Previous: No. 1
Week 8 Results: L 1-2 at Cincinnati Dutch Lions, T 1-1 at Dayton Dutch Lions
2017 PDL Record: 7-2-1
Week 9 Matches: vs. West Virginia Chaos (7:30 p.m. ET, June 28), vs. Michigan Bucks (4 p.m. ET, July 2)
Overview: K-W United's win streak snapped at eight games, as the Canadian club suffered its second defeat of the season against the Cincinnati Dutch Lions on Wednesday. After earning a point against the Dayton Dutch Lions on Friday, K-W United still remains in first place in the Great Lakes Division, but the Bucks are only five points behind with two games in hand.


4. Des Moines Menace

Previous: No. 3
Week 8 Results: T 1-1 at Chicago FC United, L 0-1 vs. Chicago FC United
2017 PDL Record: 5-3-2
Week 9 Matches: vs. Saint Louis FC U23 (7:30 p.m. CT, July 1)
Overview: The Des Moines Menace only earned one point in two matches against Chicago FC United during Week 8. The Menace have four games remaining to push for a fourth consecutive Heartland Division title, and all four matches will be played at the Menace's home of Valley Stadium.


5. Thunder Bay Chill

Previous: No. 5
Week 8 Results: W 5-0 vs. WSA Winnipeg, W 4-1 vs. WSA Winnipeg
2017 PDL Record: 5-2-1
Week 9 Matches: at Saint Louis FC U23 (5:30 p.m. CT, June 29), at St. Louis Lions (5 p.m. CT, July 1)
Overview: The Thunder Bay Chill recorded two wins against WSA Winnipeg during Week 8 to put pressure on the Menace and Lions above them in the Heartland Division. Brandon Swartzendruber scored a hat trick in the Chill's win on Friday and then netted one more in Saturday's victory.
