Red Bulls U23 take No. 1; Reading United, Phantoms move up

The New York Red Bulls U23 are the only perfect team left standing in the Eastern Conference, which earns them the top spot in Week 6's edition of the Eastern Conference Power Rankings.

Joining the 2015 Eastern Conference Championship winners in this week's rankings are Reading United AC, the Nashville SC U23, the Charlotte Eagles and the Seacoast United Phantoms.

Eastern Conference Top 5:

1. New York Red Bulls U23

Previous: No. 2
Week 6 Results: W 2-1 at Lehigh Valley United, W 2-0 at FA Euro
2017 PDL Record: 6-0-0
Week 7 Matches: vs. Jersey Express (7:30 p.m. ET, June 14), at Reading United AC (7:30 p.m. ET, June 17)
Overview: The New York Red Bulls U23 are one of two perfect sides remaining in the PDL following Week 6 action. Brian White, ranked 23rd in the second edition of the 2017 PDL Top Prospects list, continues to score goals, while the defense recorded its third shutout of the campaign on Sunday.


2. Seacoast United Phantoms

Previous: No. 3
Week 6 Results: T 2-2 at Long Island Rough Riders, W 2-0 at AC Connecticut
2017 PDL Record: 6-0-2
Week 7 Matches: vs. GPS Portland Phoenix (6 p.m. ET, June 18)
Overview: The Seacoast United Phantoms have an eight-point lead in the Northeast Division after earning a win and securing a tie in Week 6. Donnett Sackie was the difference-maker for the club, scoring three goals in two games to help the team remain unbeaten this year.


3. Reading United AC

Previous: No. 5
Week 6 Results: W 5-2 at Evergreen FC
2017 PDL Record: 4-1-0
Week 7 Matches: vs. New York Red Bulls U23 (7:30 p.m. ET, June 17)
Overview: Reading United AC earned a convincing win in Week 6 to move up the ladder. Frantzdy Pierrot scored a hat trick, while Evan Finnegan and Hugo Delhommelle, who is ranked 10th on the PDL Top Prospects list, also added a goal apiece. Currently on a three-game winning streak, the club will now host the New York Red Bulls U23 after falling to them 2-3 on May 20.


4. Charlotte Eagles

Previous: No. 4
Week 6 Results: T 1-1 at Wilmington Hammerheads FC, W 3-0 at Carolina Dynamo
2017 PDL Record: 5-1-1
Week 7 Matches: vs. Tobacco Road FC (7 p.m. ET, June 17)
Overview: The Charlotte Eagles earned four points on the road to maintain their spot in the rankings. Mutaya Mwape, ranked ninth on the PDL Top Prospects list, scored one goal in the team's 3-0 win against the Carolina Dynamo on Saturday. Kelvin Omondi also scored a goal in that match, increasing his goal total to eight – a league-high – this season.


5. Nashville SC U23

Previous: No. 1
Week 6 Results: T 1-1 at SC United Bantams, L 0-2 at South Georgia Tormenta FC, T 2-2 at South Georgia Tormenta FC
2017 PDL Record: 5-1-2
Week 7 Matches: at Tri-Cities Otters (7 p.m. ET, June 13)
Overview: The Nashville SC U23 still sit atop the South Atlantic Division after Week 6 action, but the club experienced a rough week on the road. After tying the SC United Bantams 1-1 on Tuesday, the Nashville U23 suffered defeat for the first time this season on Thursday. The club then battled to earn a point on Saturday, keeping them one point above the Eagles in the standings.
