The Ventura County Fusion will host Liga MX's Club Atlético Monarcas Morelia in a friendly match at 7 p.m. PT from Ventura College Sportsplex on July 5.
The exhibition marks the first time the Premier Development League franchise will host a first-division Mexican club.
“We are very excited to bring one of the most popular soccer teams from Mexico to Ventura County," Fusion Head Coach Rudy Ybarra said. "It’s a great opportunity for local Morelia fans to see their team play locally and a fantastic opportunity for our club to play against one of the top teams in Liga MX."
Founded in 1924, Monarcas Morelia has won one first-division title (2000), and the largest club based in the Mexican state of Michoacan also won the Copa MX Apertura in 2013 and the Supercopa MX during the 2013-14 season.
The Fusion have played multiple international and domestic professional opponents since its inaugural season in 2007, including games against English clubs Burnley F.C., Everton F.C., West Bromwich Albion F.C. and Manchester City F.C. and Major League Soccer sides LA Galaxy, San Jose Earthquakes and Seattle Sounders FC.
Ventura, 2009 PDL Championship winner, competes in the Southwest Division and will host San Francisco City FC in league play at 7 p.m. PT on Wednesday. The Fusion will then travel to play San Diego Zest FC at 5 p.m. PT on Saturday.
