2017 Western Conference Power Rankings: Week 5

FC Golden State Force takes control of the top spot in the Western Conference Power Rankings after earning four points in Week 5 of the 2017 Premier Development League regular season.

The club jumps over the Fresno Fuego, who suffered defeat for the first time this season. Calgary Foothills FCFC Tucson and the Sounders FC U23 also make an appearance in this week's top five.

Western Conference Top 5:

1. FC Golden State Force

Previous: No. 2
Week 5 Results: W 2-1 vs. Ventura County Fusion, T 0-0 Burlingame Dragons FC
2017 PDL Record: 6-0-1
Week 6 Matches: vs. Orange County SC U23 (7 p.m. PT, June 10)
Overview: The FC Golden State Force earned their sixth win of the season during Week 5 and are now the only team in the Southwest Division with no losses on the year. Mark Verso scored one goal in the Force's 2-1 win against the Ventura County Fusion on Friday, while Rhuan Alvarenga recorded one goal and one assist. The Force continue to lead the PDL in goals scored with 22.


2. FC Calgary Foothills FC

Previous: No. 3
Week 5 Results: W 1-0 at Victoria Highlanders FC, W 3-1 at Victoria Highlanders FC
2017 PDL Record: 5-1-0
Week 6 Matches: None
Overview: Calgary Foothills FC recorded two impressive road wins over Victoria Highlanders FC in Week 5, giving them a five-point lead atop the Northwest Division. Ali Musse scored the game-winner in a 1-0 result on Friday, while Chris RushworthOluwabori Falaye and Kyle Jones all scored in the team's 3-1 win on Sunday. Jones now has five goals on the season.


3. Fresno Fuego

Previous: No. 1
Week 5 Results: L 1-2 at San Francisco City FC
2017 PDL Record: 3-1-0
Week 6 Matches: vs. San Diego Zest FC (7:30 p.m. PT, June 8), vs. Southern California Surf (7:30 p.m. PT, June 10)
Overview: The Fresno Fuego suffered their first loss of the season on Sunday, falling 1-2 against San Francisco City FC at Negoesco Stadium. After starting the season 3-0 with 11 goals scored, the Fuego were held for a majority of the match. San Francisco took the 2-0 lead before Jose Cuevas netted his fifth of the season. However, the 2016 Central Pacific Division winners were unable to complete the comeback.


4. FC Tucson

Previous: Honorable Mention
Week 5 Results: W 5-1 vs. FC Boulder U23
2017 PDL Record: 4-2-1
Week 6 Matches: None
Overview: FC Tucson defeated the FC Boulder U23 for a second consecutive match, and the club also scored five goals for a second consecutive match. Moshe Perez, who earned PDL Team of the Week honors following Week 4 action, netted two, while Daniel Krutzen scored a brace and Afonso Pinheiro added one. The club now takes a week off before returning to action against San Diego Zest FC on June 17.


5. Sounders FC U23

Previous: No. 4
Week 5 Results: L 1-4 at Lane United FC, T 1-1 vs. Portland Timbers U23
2017 PDL Record: 3-2-1
Week 6 Matches: vs. Lane United FC (7:30 p.m. PT, June 9)
Overview: The Sounders U23 only earned one point from a difficult week, and the club turns right back around and faces the same opposition in Week 6. After suffering a 1-4 loss against Lane United FC on Friday, the club secured a point vs. the Portland Timbers U23, thanks to a late goal from John Dale.
