2017 Southern Conference Power Rankings: Week 5

The OKC Energy U23 take control of the top spot in Southern Conference Power Rankings following two road wins in Week 5 of the 2017 Premier Development League regular season.

The Mid South Division side leapfrogs the SIMA Aguilas into first place, while FC Miami CityMississippi Brilla FC and the Lakeland Tropics round out the top five.

1. OKC Energy U23

Previous: No. 2
Week 5 Results: W 3-0 at Houston FC, W 2-1 at Mississippi Brilla FC
2017 PDL Record: 6-0-0
Week 6 Matches: vs. Brazos Valley  (2 p.m. CT, June 10)
Overview: The OKC Energy U23 are the only perfect side remaining in the Southern Conference, improving to 6-0-0 with two road wins during Week 5. William RobertsLuc Fatton and Christian Okeke provided the goals in the shutout against Houston FC on Friday, while Julio Moncada and Timo Mehlich scored the goals in the club's impressive road win against Mississippi Brilla FC on Sunday.


2. SIMA Aguilas

Previous: No. 1
Week 5 Results: T 1-1 vs. South Florida Surf
2017 PDL Record: 5-0-1
Week 6 Matches: None
Overview: The SIMA Aguilas remain undefeated following Week 5, but the club's winning streak came to an end as the South Florida Surf earned a point at Montverde Academy. Mauriq Hill scored the only goal of the game for SIMA, while Daniel Gagliardi made two saves.


3. FC Miami City

Previous: No. 4
Week 5 Results: W 2-0 vs. IMG Academy Bradenton
2017 PDL Record: 4-1-0
Week 6 Matches: at South Florida Surf (6 p.m. ET, June 7), vs. Palm Beach Suns FC (6 p.m. ET, June 10)
Overview: While FC Miami City continues to score goals, the club's defense turned in a strong shift on Sunday. Goalkeeper Eric Edge made four saves as the team recorded its second shutout of the season. Mohamed Kourouma and Zakariae Merzouk scored the goals at Central Broward Regional Park.


4. Mississippi Brilla FC

Previous: No. 3
Week 5 Results: L 1-2 vs. OKC Energy U23
2017 PDL Record: 3-1-0
Week 6 Matches: at FC Cleburne (7 p.m. CT, June 9), at Texas United (7 p.m. CT, June 11)
Overview: In the Mid South Division's battle of the unbeatens, Mississippi Brilla FC suffered defeat. After falling down 2-0 at home against the OKC Energy U23, Nicco Mastrangelo scored in the second half to shift momentum. However, Mississippi could not stage a comeback and received their first loss of the season.


5. Lakeland Tropics

Previous: Honorable Mention
Week 5 Results: W 2-1 vs. Tampa Bay Rowdies U23
2017 PDL Record: 4-1-0
Week 6 Matches: vs. Weston FC (7:35 p.m. ET, June 10)
Overview: After going down 1-0 against the Tampa Bay Rowdies U23, the Lakeland Tropics scored two unanswered to earn their fourth consecutive win. Ricardo Diegues, who scored Saturday's winner, now has five goals this season. Jonathan Valerio recorded 11 saves in the 2-1 victory, increasing his total on the season to 33, which is tied for the second most in the league.
