Bucks retain top spot; K-W United, Saint Louis FC U23 move up

The Michigan Bucks fell for the first time in the 2017 Premier Development League regular season, but the Great Lakes Division side holds onto their top spot in this week's edition of the Central Conference Power Rankings.

The Dayton Dutch Lions, who are an Honorable Mention following Week 4 results, topped the Bucks at home on Tuesday, but the 2016 PDL champions responded by defeating the West Virginia Chaos 6-2.

Behind the Bucks are K-W United FC, the Saint Louis FC U23, the Thunder Bay Chill and Chicago FC United.

Central Conference Top 5:

1. Michigan Bucks

Previous: No. 1
Week 4 Results: L 1-2 at Dayton Dutch Lions, W 6-2 vs. West Virginia Chaos
2017 PDL Record: 2-1-0
Week 5 Matches: None
Overview: For the second year in a row, the Dayton Dutch Lions handed the Michigan Bucks their first loss of the season. Last campaign, the Bucks responded by winning 13 of their last 14 games, which include the 2016 PDL Championship. With no PDL matches scheduled for Week 5, the Bucks can focus on their game against the United Soccer League's Saint Louis FC in the Third Round of the 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday and their match against Chicago FC United in the Hank Steinbrecher Cup on Friday.


2. K-W United FC

Previous: No. 3
Week 4 Results: W 3-1 vs. West Virginia Chaos
2017 PDL Record: 3-1-0
Week 5 Matches: None
Overview: With a 3-1-0 record, K-W United FC currently sits atop the Great Lakes Division. The club's only loss came against the Michigan Bucks, but the Canadian club has outscored its opposition 10-1 since dropping its season opener. Liam Callahan, who was named to the first edition of the 2017 PDL Top Prospects list on Friday, scored one of the goals in K-W United's 3-1 win against the West Virginia Chaos on Sunday. Sameer Fathazada and Janos Loebe added the other two.


3. Saint Louis FC U23

Previous: Honorable Mention
Week 4 Results: W 1-0 vs. WSA Winnipeg, W 2-0 vs. WSA Winnipeg, T 1-1 vs. Des Moines Menace
2017 PDL Record: 2-0-1
Week 5 Matches: None
Overview: The Saint Louis FC U23 sit atop the Heartland Division with an undefeated record through three matches. University of Akron talent Sam Gainford scored a goal in each game for the club in Week 4, and he has also provided one assist. The Saint Louis FC U23 only conceded one goal in their first three games, with Kyle Dal Santo and Drew Nuelle each earning a shutout against WSA.


4. Thunder Bay Chill

Previous: No. 4
Week 4 Results: None
2017 PDL Record: 0-0-0
Week 5 Matches: at WSA Winnipeg (7 p.m. CT, June 3), at WSA Winnipeg (1 p.m. CT, June 4)
Overview: The Thunder Bay Chill are set to kick off their 2017 PDL campaign in Week 5, with two matches against WSA Winnipeg on the docket. Players to watch this season for the Chill include forwards Sullivan Oliveira Silva and Brandon Swartzendruber and defender Mitchell Osmond.


5. Chicago FC United

Previous: No. 5
Week 4 Results: T 1-1 vs. WSA Winnipeg
2017 PDL Record: 1-0-1
Week 5 Matches: None
Overview: Chicago FC United was held to a 1-1 tie at home against WSA Winnipeg on Friday, as the club chose to rest some of its key members for Wednesday's U.S. Open Cup match against Christos FC and Friday's Hank Steinbrecher Cup meeting against the Michigan Bucks. Chris MuellerMark Segbers and Ryan Sierakowski, who were all named to the first edition of the Top Prospects list, all rested over the weekend.
