Force rises; Tucson, Highlanders FC enter top five

The FC Golden State Force continue to rise in the Western Conference Power Rankings after another strong goal-scoring performance in Week 3.

Southwest Division foes Fresno Fuego still remain atop the rankings, while two new teams in FC Tucson and Victoria Highlanders FC enter the top five after being named Honorable Mentions last week.

Western Conference Top 5:

1. Fresno Fuego

Previous: No. 1
Week 3 Results: None
2017 PDL Record: 2-0-0
Week 4 Matches: vs. Ventura County Fusion (7:30 p.m. PT, May 26)
Overview: After starting the season with back-to-back victories against Burlingame Dragons FC, the Fresno Fuego had Week 3 off. Jose Cuevas, who earned PDL Team of the Week honors following Week 1 action, is tied with Joey Chica and Diego Casillas for the team-high in goals scored this season with two.


2. FC Golden State Force

Previous: No. 3
Week 3 Results: W 5-0 Southern California Seahorses
2017 PDL Record: 3-0-0
Week 4 Matches: at San Diego Zest FC (5 p.m. PT, May 24), at Southern California Surf (6 p.m. PT, May 27)
Overview: The FC Golden State Force continue to impress, scoring at least four goals for the third time this PDL campaign. California talent Jose Carrera-Garcia leads the team with three goals on the year after netting two in the club's 5-0 win against the Southern California Seahorses on Saturday.


3. Calgary Foothills FC

Previous: No. 2
Week 3 Results: L 1-2 at TSS FC Rovers, W 1-0 at Sounders FC U23
2017 PDL Record: 3-1-0
Week 4 Matches: None
Overview: Calgary Foothills FC, winner of the Western Conference Championship in 2016, fell for the first time this PDL season, but the club rebounded in a big way. Foothills FC defeated the Sounders FC U23 1-0 on the road, thanks to an incredible long-range effort by Ali Musse. The win keeps them at the top of the Northwest Division after three weeks of play.


4. FC Tucson

Previous: Honorable Mention
Week 3 Results: W 4-2 at Albuquerque Sol F.C.
2017 PDL Record: 2-1-1
Week 4 Matches: at Colorado Rapids U23 (5:30 p.m. MDT, May 25), at FC Boulder U23 (5:30 p.m. MDT, May 26)
Overview: After only earning one point from its first two home matches, FC Tucson has claimed back-to-back road wins to take the top spot in the Mountain Division. Daniel Krutzen has now scored in consecutive games after netting one of the goals in Tucson's 4-2 win over rival Albuquerque Sol F.C. on Saturday.


5. Victoria Highlanders FC

Previous: Honorable Mention
Week 3 Results: None
2017 PDL Record: 1-0-0
Week 4 Matches: vs. Sounders FC U23 (7 p.m. PT, May 26)
Overview: Victoria Highlanders FC started the PDL season off strong with a 4-1 win against Lane United FC on May 14. After having Week 3 off, the club will turn its attention towards a talented Sounders FC U23 team. Callum Montgomery, who earned Week 1 PDL Team of the Week honors, leads the club's back line.
