A Premier Development League team has topped a professional club in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup for a sixth consecutive year, as Reading United AC, Chicago FC United and the Michigan Bucks all earned victories in the Second Round of the 2017 tournament on Wednesday.

Reading United, which is competing in the U.S. Open Cup for a ninth straight year, defeated the New York Cosmos, 3-2, at Albright College in Reading, Pennsylvania. The Bucks, three-time PDL champions, edged Indy Eleven, 1-0, at the Ultimate Soccer Arenas in Pontiac, Michigan, while Chicago FC United beat the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, 3-1, at Martin Stadium in Evanston, Illinois.

Paul MarieMarco Micaletto and Frantzdy Pierrot scored the goals for Reading United, while Hugo Delhommelle – who earned PDL Team of the Week honors on Wednesday – showed off his skill set once again. The win marks the third time Reading United has reached the Third Round of the competition since 2013. The Mid Atlantic Division franchise will host the United Soccer League club Harrisburg City Islanders in the Third Round on May 31.

The Bucks, who are the only amateur team to defeat two Major League Soccer clubs in U.S. Open Cup history, advanced thanks to a strong showing in goal by Drew Shepherd and a good finish by Francis Atuahene – who also earned PDL Team of the Week honors on Wednesday – in the first half. The Bucks will host the USL's Saint Louis FC in the Third Round on May 31.

University of Wisconsin-Madison talents Mark Segbers and Thomas Barlow each scored a goal for Chicago FC United, while Ryan Sierakowski netted the late goal to secure advancement into the next round. Chicago FC United will play Christos FC in the Third Round of the tournament on May 31.

All Third Round matches in the 2017 U.S. Open Cup are scheduled to kick off on May 31, while MLS teams will enter the competition in the Fourth Round of the tournament from June 13-14.
