After three seasons in the Premier Development League, Jared Odenbeck has signed a professional contract with the United Soccer League's Charlotte Independence, pending league and U.S. Soccer Federation approval.

The defender joins the USL club after playing for the Southern California Seahorses in 2014 and the Charlotte Eagles from 2015-16.

“It's really a special opportunity to play in the place that you grew up,” Odenbeck said in a release. “It was always something that was in the back of my mind when I was playing, but when I got the offer, I couldn't really turn down.”

A native of Charlotte, North Carolina, Odenbeck traveled west to compete for the Seahorses in 2014, making 11 appearances (945 minutes). When the Eagles joined the PDL in 2015, Odenbeck decided to stay home, playing a total of 17 games (1,127 minutes) over the course of two seasons. He helped the Eagles claim back-to-back South Atlantic Division titles.

Collegiately, Odenbeck played for Wake Forest University. He played 13 games for the Demon Deacons during the 2016 campaign, helping the program reach the College Cup.

Odenbeck becomes the latest 2016 PDL alum to sign a professional contract this year. He joins fellow defender Luke Waechter, who signed a deal on Tuesday, on the Independence roster for the 2017 USL regular season.
