PDL Talent Basuljevic Signs NYRB Homegrown Deal

Red Bulls U23 midfielder finished 2016 PDL campaign as No. 5 Top Prospect

After shining for two seasons in the Premier Development League, Arun Basuljevic has signed a Homegrown Player contract with the New York Red Bulls.

The Georgetown midfielder appeared in 18 games for the New York Red Bulls U23 from 2015-16. In the 2016 PDL regular season, Basuljevic scored eight goals and provided five assists – both team-highs for the Red Bulls U23. He finished the season with 2016 PDL All-Eastern Conference Team and 2016 PDL All-League Team honors for his exceptional play.

“Arun is a guy that we’ve had our eye on for a long time,” Red Bulls Head Coach Jesse Marsch said. “He has excelled at every level. We’ve gotten to observe him both at Georgetown and with our U23 team over the summer, and we feel that he is at a point in his development where it makes sense to bring him into our environment on a day-to-day basis to help him take the next step.”

Basuljevic joins Evan Louro as 2016 PDL alums to earn a Homegrown deal with the Red Bulls ahead of the 2017 Major League Soccer season, while many more alums have signed contracts this offseason. K-W United FC midfielder Sergio Camargo signed a deal with Toronto FC on Jan. 11FC Golden State Force playmaker Jose Hernandez joined Real Salt Lake on Dec. 22 and Burlingame Dragons FC standout Nick Lima inked with the San Jose Earthquakes on Dec. 21.
