After two years of PDL play, Evan Louro has signed a Homegrown Player contract with the Major League Soccer's New York Red Bulls.

A standout goalkeeper at Michigan, Louro played 17 matches for the New York Red Bulls U23 from 2015-16, making 76 saves in 1,465 minutes of play.

“Evan is another great example of an academy player that worked hard through the Red Bulls system, playing in college and continuing with the Red Bulls U-23s in the summer,” Red Bulls Head Coach Jesse Marsch said. “We look forward to him being a part of the goalkeeper competition.”

Louro played 45 matches in his three-year college career at Michigan, making 151 saves while recording a 1.17 goals-against average.

The 6-foot-3 netminder is the latest PDL alum from the 2016 season to earn a Homegrown Player contract ahead of the 2017 MLS regular season. K-W United FC talent Sergio Camargo signed a deal with Toronto FC on Jan. 11, FC Golden State Force standout Jose Hernandez joined Real Salt Lake on Dec. 22 and Burlingame Dragons FC defender Nick Lima agreed to a deal with the San Jose Earthquakes on Dec. 21.

For more than two decades, the PDL has served as an important steppingstone for aspiring professionals. Since 2010, nearly 70 percent of all MLS SuperDraft selections have had PDL experience, with 59 PDL alums being chosen in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft – 73 percent of entire class.
