Christian Chaney, who finished the 2016 PDL campaign as the No. 1 PDL Top Prospect, has re-signed with the United Soccer League's Sacramento Republic FC, pending league and federation approval, ahead of 2017.
“Christian is a player that joined us at the end of the season,” Republic FC Head Coach and Technical Director Paul Buckle. “He is of good age, a young player that is strong, powerful and can score goals. He has a lot of work to do on his game and he comes in as a developmental prospect, but I think that he has the tools to break into our first team sooner rather than later.”
Chaney earned 2016 PDL All-League Team honors after scoring 13 goals and recording one assist in 12 PDL regular-season games for the Fresno Fuego.
The forward was loaned to Major League Soccer's San Jose Earthquakes in September, and Chaney came off the bench as a substitute against Mexican club CF Pachuca. Chaney then made an appearance in Republic FC's final match of the season, playing 35 minutes as a substitute against CD Guadalajara on Oct. 5.
