Baltimore Bohemians alum Brandon Allen became the latest former PDL player to earn United Soccer League honors, as the New York Red Bulls II forward was voted 2016 USL Rookie of the Year on Thursday.

Allen, who was signed as a Homegrown Player by the New York Red Bulls after four strong seasons at Georgetown University, netted 15 goals during the 2016 USL campaign to lead the Red Bulls II to the best regular-season record.

“Going into the USL, I think I was confident, but I also wanted to prove myself,” Allen told USLSoccer.com. “Toward the end of the season, I was feeling better about the way things were going, and I think my game started to get even better as the season went on.”

Allen joins fellow PDL alums Mitch Hildebrandt and Aaron Long in receiving USL honors, with the former Michigan Bucks netminder earning the 2016 USL Goalkeeper of the Year award and FC Tucson defender claiming the 2016 Defender of the Year award.

The 2016 USL Awards were voted on by team management and a league-wide media panel, which included representation from every USL market. Voting was conducted following the conclusion of the 2016 USL regular season.
