Dave Irby Named Seahorses Head Coach

Coach returns to PDL to lead Southern California starting in 2017

The Southern California Seahorses announced Dave Irby as the club's new Head Coach on Wednesday.

Irby, who has prior PDL coaching experience, will lead the Seahorses starting in 2017. Most recently, Irby led NAIA program Corban from 2006-09, earning NAIA Champion of Character Team Awards in 2008 and 2009.

Irby began his coaching career at his alma mater, Azusa Pacific College, where he earned two Coach of the Year awards. Since then, he has coached at the youth, club, high school, collegiate and PDL levels. During his tenure, Irby has led teams against the Honduras, Guatemala, Philippines and Sudan national teams.

The Seahorses' PDL team was founded in 2001, and the club currently plays its home matches at La Mirada High School in La Mirada, California. The Seahorses have reached the PDL Playoffs three times, winning the Southwest Division title in 2006 and the Western Conference title in 2002. Notable alumni from the Seahorses include San Jose Earthquakes forward Steve Lenhart and former Seattle Sounders defender Patrick Ianni.
