TDS: 15 PDL Players Earn Honors

Red Bulls U23's Basuljevic, Bucks' Najem among PDL players named for preseason honors

PDL players continue to rack up preseason awards, as 15 PDL players, including six named to the final 2016 PDL Top Prospects list, earned TopDrawerSoccer 2016 Preseason Honors on Tuesday.

New York Red Bulls U23 midfielder Arun Basuljevic, Michigan Bucks midfielder Adam Najem, OKC Energy U23 and Southern Methodist University forward Mauro Cichero and Seattle University and Sounders FC U23 defender Kyle Bjornethun were named to the TopDrawerSoccer Preseason First Team.

Basuljevic, set to lead Georgetown University in his junior season, led the Red Bulls U23 with eight goals and five assists. Ranked fifth in the Top Prospects list, Basuljevic earned 2016 PDL All-League Team honors. The University of Akron’s Najem, ranked eighth in the Top Prospects list, scored one goal and assisted nine en route to earning the 2016 PDL Creative Player of the Year award and a PDL Championship with the Bucks.

Georgetown and Burlingame Dragons FC goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski, UCLA and FC Golden State Force midfielder Jose Hernandez, Rutgers University and South Florida Surf forward Jason Wright and Seattle U. and Sounders U23 forward David Olsen earned TopDrawerSoccer Preseason Second Team honors. Hernandez is ranked sixth on the Top Prospects list after finishing the regular season with three goals and four assists.

Monmouth University and Red Bulls U23 goalkeeper Eric Klenofsky, Saint Francis University (PA) and Bucks defender Francis de Vries, UNLV and Dragons FC forward Daniel Musovski, and University of Buffalo and Bucks forward Russell Cicerone claimed TopDrawerSoccer Preseason Third Team honors.

Cicerone, who earned PDL Championship MVP honors after scoring two goals and providing one assist in the Bucks’ victory over Calgary Foothills FC, finished 18th in the Top Prospects list. Musovski is ranked 22nd, while De Vries is 28th.

Three players, Chicago Fire U-23 and UNC Chapel Hill teammates Mauricio Pineda and Cameron Lindley and GPS Portland Phoenix and Georgetown University talent Ifunanyachi Acharaheadline the TopDrawerSoccer Freshman Team.
