Sacramento Republic FC has announced a second signing of a key Fresno Fuego contributor, inking defender Elliott Hord to a contract.

After signing Fuego forward and PDL Top Prospect Christian Chaney on Aug. 12, Republic FC revealed Hord as its latest addition on Friday.

“Elliott is a coach's player,” Fuego Head Coach Brian Zwaschka said. “He doesn't over-complicate things in his game, nor emotionally in how he carries himself off the field. He is curious about strategies and techniques, and also his health. When he has a new bit of information thrown at him, he can digest it, and he works to integrate things into his game that will help him. In tough matches, it is great to know you have players like Elliott who can get their head around your message and get to the task of executing things in a pressure moment. Our team was better because of his contributions and honest preparations, and I wish Elliott the very best in his new opportunity. He has earned it.”

Hord played 10 regular-season games for the Fuego, assisting one goal while helping the club earn seven shutouts. The 25-year-old played four seasons at the University of California, Davis, scoring one goal and providing three assists in 67 appearances.

“Elliott is a local player who has trained with the Fuego since he was 16 years old,” Fuego General Manager Jeremy Shultz said. “He has matured incredibly through his years with the club. Elliott brings versatility to the team with the ability to play multiple positions and was a true leader, on and off the field. His leadership as a veteran was critical in the club's success in 2016.

“Elliott was a fixture at the right back position and one of our most consistent players on the pitch, we knew playing through Elliott the team would connect our lines and build our attack. His defending was always connected with his back four and his one v one defending is first class. We wish Elliott the very bes,t as he continues his pursuit of professional soccer. Sacramento Republic is a great home for Elliott, as a graduate of UC Davis and Central Valley product. We look forward to his progress at the next level.”

Republic FC will play the Portland Timbers 2 at 8 p.m. ET from Bonney Field on Saturday.
