2016 PDL All-Playoffs Team - Fans' Choice Revealed

Bucks' Cicerone, Foothills FC's Russo headline selections

TAMPA, Fla. – Michigan Bucks forward and PDL Championship MVP Russell Cicerone and Calgary Foothills FC standout Dominic Russo lead the selections for the 2016 PDL All-Playoffs Team – Fans’ Choice.

Russo, named to the 2016 PDL All-League Team, received 44 percent of the 2107 votes for the top forwards ballot, while the University of Buffalo talent garnered 41 percent.

PDL Defender of the Year Alhassan Abubakar joins teammate Francis de Vries as the representatives from the 2016 PDL Champions.

The PDL All-Playoffs Team features six players on the sixth edition of the 2016 PDL Top Prospects list. Midland/Odessa Sockers FC’s Fernando Machado and Foothills FC’s Elijah Adekugbe are among the Top Prospects who received honors.

PDL All-Playoffs Team

GK – Dylon Powley, Calgary Foothills FC: Powley made five appearances in the PDL Playoffs, earning two shutouts. He recorded 24 saves and a 0.94 goals against average, playing four of the five contests on the road.

D – Dominick Zator, Calgary Foothills FC: Zator played every minute of Foothills FC’s five PDL Playoffs matches, and the defender scored the game-winning goal against FC Tucson in the Western Conference Championship.

D – Alhassan Abubakar, Michigan Bucks: The University of Dayton’s Abubakar appeared in all four matches for the Bucks, assisting a goal in the club’s 3-0 win against Sockers FC in the PDL Semifinals. The defender was key in helping the Bucks record three shutouts.

D – Fernando Machado, Midland/Odessa Sockers FC: Machado played in every match for Sockers FC during the PDL Playoffs, helping the club reach the PDL Semifinals for the first time. Machado led the club’s back line against the high-flying OKC Energy U23, and he was instrumental in keeping the Mid South Division winner off the score sheet.

D – Francis de Vries, Michigan Bucks: De Vries was just as important as Abubakar to the Bucks’ run to the title in the 2016 PDL Playoffs. The St. Francis University talent made four appearances, helped the club record three shutouts and scored a goal in the PDL Semifinals.

M – Kyle Jones, Calgary Foothills FC: Jones made a name for himself in the 2016 PDL Playoffs. The midfielder scored an incredible goal against the Ocean City Nor’easters and assisted Foothills FC’s second goal in the PDL Championship.

M – Elijah Adekugbe, Calgary Foothills FC: Adekugbe made four appearances for Foothills FC during the playoffs, assisting one goal while bossing the field as a defensive midfielder.

M – Jade Mesias, Midland/Odessa Sockers FC: Mesias played in all three matches for Sockers FC during the 2016 PDL Playoffs. The midfielder scored an incredible free kick – which proved to be the game-winner – against The Villages SC in the Southern Conference Championship Semifinals.

F – Russell Cicerone, Michigan Bucks: Cicerone, named PDL Championship MVP, scored four goals and assisted two others en route to leading the Bucks to a PDL title. The Mid-American Conference Player of the Year scored two goals and provided one assist in the match against Foothills FC.

F – Dominic Russo, Calgary Foothills FC: Russo took the league by storm in the PDL Playoffs, scoring a goal in four of the five games he played in. The forward also recorded one assist to lead the Canadian club to a PDL Championship appearance.

F – Ajeej Sarkaria, Calgary Foothills FC: Sarkaria was influential as the second forward for Foothills FC, scoring two goals and providing two assists in five games during its run to the PDL Championship.
