Floridians F.C. jumps into the top slot following fourth consecutive win

The forward scored his seventh goal of the regular season in a 1-0 Floridians F.C. win against Palm Beach Suns FC on Wednesday. With its fourth consecutive win of the campaign, Floridians F.C. moves into within one point of the top spot in the Southeast Division standings with one game in hand on the South Florida Surf.

Here’s the Southern Conference’s Top 6:

1. Floridians F.C. (Previous: 4)
Last Week: W 1-0 at Palm Beach Suns FC
Medina has seven goals this season, and his strike at Oxbridge Academy on Wednesday proved to be the game-winner. Defensively, Floridians F.C. looked strong; the team earned its third shutout victory of the regular season.

2. Midland/Odessa Sockers FC (Previous: 3)
Last Week: No Games
Sockers FC had Week 7 off, and benefited from Mid South Division rivals OKC Energy U23 falling in one of their two contests. Now, Sockers FC sits atop the standings with 17 points through eight games.

3. South Florida Surf (Previous: 1)
Last Week: T 1-1 at SW Florida Adrenaline
The Surf were not as sharp all around as they have been in recent weeks, but they secured a road point to stay atop the Southeast standings for the time being. Lucas Da Silva scored the Surf’s only goal, while Lucas Coutinho continued his impressive 2016 season with another assist.

4. OKC Energy U23 (Previous: 2)
Last Week: W 1-0 at Albuquerque Sol F.C., L 3-2 at Albuquerque Sol F.C.
The Energy U23 earned an important 1-0 win against Sol F.C. in the PDL Game of the Week on Friday, but they could not produce the same result on Sunday. Josh Taylor scored the game-winner on Friday, while Ben Conway and Noah Keats combined for a superb goal in Sunday’s match.

5. FC Miami City (Previous: 6)
Last Week: W 1-0 at IMG Academy Bradenton
Coming off a well-earned tie against The Villages SC, Miami City kept on rolling against IMG Academy Bradenton on Wednesday. Jonny Campbell assisted Bryan Perea, who scored the winner in the second half. Miami City now sits just three points back of first place in the Southeast standings.

6. The Villages SC (Previous: NR)
Last Week: W 4-0 at IMG Academy Bradenton
Everything was clicking for The Villages SC at IMG Academy on Saturday. Carlos Araujo led the charge with two goals and two assists while Federico De Oliveira and Carlos Vitor Alvarenga also scored in the rout.
