Former Dragons midfielder preps for first pro season with MLS’s Earthquakes

Former Burlingame Dragons midfielder Ty Thompson, who won an NCAA Championship with Stanford this past December, is now taking his game to the professional ranks.

Thompson became the first former Dragon to be selected in the MLS SuperDraft when the San Jose Earthquakes picked him in the third round. BurlingameDragons.com caught up with Thompson following the draft.

“I was ecstatic,” Thompson said. “I could not believe that I got drafted to my dream team. Playing at the highest level was always a goal of mine as a young kid, and it was amazing to finally see it come true.”

Thompson credits playing for Burlingame as an integral part toward his growth heading into his senior college season.

“The Dragons PDL experience provided me with the springboard to go into my college season fit and sharp,” Thompson said. “The Dragons also prepared me to go into my senior season confident and ready to lead. A huge part of my opportunity to play at the next level was because of a great senior year, which would not have been possible without the Dragons.”
