FORT WORTH, Texas & TAMPA, Fla. - The United Soccer League announced today that Fort Worth Vaqueros FC will join USL League Two for the 2026 season.
Since launching in 2013, the Vaqueros have created a platform for high-level pre-professional soccer in the Fort Worth area. The club has competed in the NPSL’s Lonestar Conference, capturing the regular season conference title in 2017 and conference playoff championship in 2019. Fort Worth expanded its programming in 2018, adding a high-performance academy and then a youth club in 2024. To complete its youth to pre-professional pathway, the Vaqueros launched a pre-professional women’s team in 2025, Fort Worth Vaqueras.
“What began as an idea brought to Cowtown 12 years ago has grown into something truly special,” said Anthony Harris, Fort Worth Vaqueros FC General Manager. “It’s a privilege to take the next step on behalf of our city, our loyal supporters, and our community. Joining USL League Two marks an exciting new era as we build toward the next 12 years and beyond of Vaqueros soccer.”
Fort Worth has worked to unite its community around the club and develop top players to create a clear pathway for local talent to the professional levels. The club is proud to represent Fort Worth and operates with the culture, resilience, and character of the city in every match, partnership, and interaction. Throughout the year, the club hosts career days, school fundraisers, free clinics and more to be visible and engaged in the community.
The Vaqueros have been home to multiple players, coaches, and front office staff who have succeeded at the professional level. Rio Ramirez played for the club before spending the 2021 USL League One season with North Texas SC. Fort Worth is currently coached by Tony Merola, a former professional for Wrexham AFC.
“Fort Worth has worked hard to build a strong program that will continue to elevate the impressive local soccer scene,” said Joel Nash, USL SVP of Youth and Pre-Professional Properties. “As they join League Two, we’re excited to see the Vaqueros deliver more memorable moments for their fans and promote their exciting young players.”
Fort Worth will compete in League Two’s Southern Conference.
