USL Championship side expands pre-professional opportunities

LEESBURG, Va. & TAMPA, Fla. - The United Soccer League announced today that Loudoun United FC will join USL League Two for the 2026 season.

USL Championship club Loudoun United merged with prominent youth soccer organization Virginia Revolution Soccer Club in April 2025 with the goal of fostering a complete player pathway to the professional ranks. The club’s mission is to become the premier professional sports and entertainment organization in Northern Virginia, with a focus on game-day experience, fostering community partnerships, and contributing to the growth of soccer in the region. The League Two team will be known as Loudoun United FC 2.

“Joining USL League Two strengthens the pathway we have in place and gives our top youth players and local college talent a proper summer platform to train and compete at a pre-professional level,” said Karl Sharman, President of Loudoun United. “For us, this is not simply about putting another team on the pitch. It reflects our commitment to building a fair and meaningful pathway, making full use of our facilities, and continuing to push Loudoun United forward as a club with real purpose and intent in the USL system.”

Loudoun United amplifies its core principles of community, commitment, and pride. The club frequently works with local nonprofits, such as Veterans Moving Forward and the Loudoun First Responders Foundation, with the goal of impacting the Northern Virginia community both on and off the field.

“We’re excited to see Loudoun United develop its pre-professional pathway in the soccer hotbed of Northern Virginia,” said Joel Nash, USL SVP of Youth and Pre-Professional Properties. “By adding a League Two team, Loudoun will provide a bright stage for the rising stars in the area.”

The club has proven its ability to develop top talent, with notable Loudoun alumni including current D.C. United players Jackson Hopkins and Garrison Tubbs, as well as AFC Bournemouth defender Matai Akinmboni. Loudoun’s Abdellatif Aboukoura, who began his career on an Academy Contract with the club, was recently voted the 2025 USL Championship Young Player of the Year.

Loudoun United will compete in the Chesapeake Division of League Two’s Eastern Conference. The club will play its home matches at Segra Field in Leesburg, Virginia.
