Eleven players who’ve shined bright in League Two and college

TAMPA, Fla. - With the 2025 NCAA Division I men’s soccer tournament kicking off today, we compiled a starting XI that features some of college soccer’s best performers who have spent their summers in League Two.

GK – Logan Erb – North Carolina State University/AHFC Royals

Coming off a sharp season for AHFC Royals, where the keeper recorded a dramatic goal, Erb posted 10 shutouts, 0.41 goals against average, and .848 save percentage, all of which are college-career highs in seasons where he has played in more than one game. The Houston native was named the 2025 ACC Goalkeeper of the Year for No. 15 North Carolina State University.

DEF – Lasse Kelp – University of Maryland/Utah United

Kelp spent the 2024 summer with Utah United, helping them finish just one point out of the playoffs in its inaugural League Two season. With No. 4 University of Maryland, the German defender led the Terrapins to give up just 12 goals, the least of any Big Ten team, and he was rewarded as the 2025 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year.

DEF – Nikola Markovic – North Carolina State University/Cedar Stars Rush

After putting in some strong performances with Cedar Stars Rush, Markovic kept up his form with the Wolfpack as they let up the second-least goals in all of NCAA Division I. The sophomore picked up the 2025 ACC Defensive Player of the Year award after more than tripling his minutes total from his first collegiate campaign.

DEF – Nick Lockermann – University of Vermont/Vermont Green FC

Lockermann started all 17 of No. 1 University of Vermont’s matches this season. The German defender, who played for Vermont Green FC in 2024, was named the 2025 America East Defender of the Year as the Catamounts allowed just three goals over its nine conference games in the regular and postseason.

MID – Richie Aman – University of Washington/Ballard FC

It is hard not to notice Aman’s lively play whenever he is on the field for Ballard FC or the University of Washington. He followed up his nine-assist campaign in League Two with three goals and 11 assists for the Huskies, en route to becoming the 2025 Big Ten Midfielder of the Year.

MID – Zach Zengue – Georgetown University/Vermont Green FC

After captaining the Green to the League Two title, Zengue returned to No. 7 Georgetown University for his senior season and tore up his previous season highs. With 13 goals and 12 assists in 19 games, Zengue was named the 2025 BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year.

MID – Laurie Goddard – Hofstra University/Dothan United

Goddard had his best League Two summer yet in 2025, leading Dothan United to the National Semifinal. The Englishman did not lose any momentum as his focus shifted to Hofstra University, tallying 11 goals and five assists and picking up both the 2025 CAA Player of the Year and Midfielder of the Year honors.

MID – Diego Rosas – University of Portland/GFI Academy

Rosas tuned up for his junior year with GFI Academy before taking the West Coast Conference by storm. The Texas native unleashed 14 assists in 2025, currently tied for the lead in Division I, and helping him bring in the 2025 WCC Midfielder of the Year award for No. 8 University of Portland.

FWD – Palmer Ault – Indiana University/Flint City Bucks

The former Flint City Buck and Indy Eleven Academy player has been must-watch television in 2025 for No. 6 Indiana University. Ault has had his foot on the gas all season, currently sitting on 16 goals and seven assists as the 2025 Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year.

FWD – Arnaud Tattevin – UNC-Greensboro/Vermont Green FC

Tattevin was a key playmaker for the Green on its march to silverware in 2025. With UNC-Greensboro, the Frenchman continued his dynamic play, scoring 12 goals and earning a nod to the All-SoCon Second Team.

FWD – Donavan Phillip – North Carolina State University/Flint City Bucks

If you haven’t heard about Donavan Phillip in 2025, you’ve been living under a rock. The forward has scored at a torrential pace, finding the back of the net 17 times for Flint City across 16 regular season and playoff matches. Phillip did not slow down as he rolled into the college season with NC State, scoring 15 goals in 17 games to become the 2025 ACC Offensive Player of the Year.
