Successful DMV-area club adds pre-professional to proven pathway

BETHESDA, Md. & TAMPA, Fla. - The United Soccer League announced today that Bethesda Soccer Club will launch a USL League Two team that will begin play in the 2026 season.

Bethesda SC has operated successfully since 1979, providing U7 to U19 players an opportunity for player development and elite youth soccer competition. The club prioritizes building up their athletes as individuals and training not just sporting skill, but also leadership, sportsmanship, and love for the game. Education is also a major part of Bethesda SC’s development philosophy, teaching players how to read the game in front of them and make good, quick decisions.

Since 2017, Bethesda SC has competed in USL Youth as a primary part of its programming and has won five championships in the competition. Bethesda SC will compete in the Chesapeake Division of USL League Two’s Eastern Conference and will play its home matches at MD SoccerPlex.

“Bethesda SC is a top-notch club with a proven ability to help players develop and maximize their potential on and off the pitch,” said Joel Nash, USL SVP of Youth and Pre-Professional Properties. “They will be entering a tremendously competitive division, and we are excited for the thrilling matches they will play next season.”

The club has seen multiple players rise through their ranks to play professionally, including current USL Championship players Joe Gyau and Gedion Zelalem, who also spent time in European academies.

“Bethesda SC is excited to join USL League Two beginning in the 2026 season,” said Jonathon Colton, Executive Director of Bethesda SC. “Our players, coaches, and leadership are looking forward to the challenge of competing in League Two.”
