Strong starts to the season from this XI

TAMPA, Fla. – The League Two season kicked off in May, with multiple teams getting off to undefeated starts and well over 500 goals scored across all games. The USL League Two Team of the Month was determined by league officials based on excellent performances throughout the month of May.

The performance data and statistics for the 2025 USL League Two season are provided through enhanced data and analysis provided by Spiideo and SportsEngine Play, with statistics automatically pulled into a League Exchange created by Spiideo. GK – Nigel van Haveren – Fort Lauderdale United FC

Fort Lauderdale United couldn’t have asked for more from Nigel van Haveren, who gave up zero goals in five starts, playing all 450 minutes in May. The 23-year-old Dutch netminder, who came up in the Vitesse/De Graafschap academy, is a big reason why his club looks like a playoff team in their first League Two season.

DEF – Scott Gray – Little Rock Rangers

Scott Gray has been an integral part of Little Rock’s stingy back line, giving up just two goals in four games. In addition to his defensive presence, he’s also helping on the other side of the ball, finishing the month with a 70% passing accuracy.

DEF – Khai Brisco – Ballard FC

Khai Brisco makes the Team of the Month for May in consecutive seasons, and he’s here for many of the same reasons. He’s a tenacious defender and a scary sight for attackers on the other side. 83% passing accuracy highlights the stat line for this Ballard FC veteran, eager to make another deep playoff run.

DEF – Moussa Ndiaye – Vermont Green FC

Moussa Ndiaye can flex between defense and midfield, and this season he has taken command of The Green’s backline, which did not concede a goal in three games. 50/50 battles are more like a weighted coin when he’s going for them, but his sharpest skill this season is his passing. Ndiaye is averaging five final third entry passes per game and 88% pass accuracy from his center back spot.

MID – Felix Ewald – Lionsbridge FC

Lionsbridge has one of the most potent attacks in League Two and at the center of that is Felix Ewald. The Berlin native scored six in five games, including a first half hattrick against Patuxent Football Athletics. As the season goes on, expect to see him firmly in the Golden Boot race.

MID – Carlos Zambrano – Fort Lauderdale United FC – Player of the Month

Carlos Zambrano was a machine in May, scoring one goal in each of Fort Lauderdale’s five games. His skill, finishing, and creativity drives his play and makes him a headache for defenders. Finally, he’s always reliable for a good celebration. His phenomenal play in May has earned him Player of the Month honors. Still not convinced? See below.

MID – Alejandro Silva – Utah United

Alejandro Silva had a fantastic start to his second League Two campaign, notching three goals in May, including a delightful over-the-wall free kick. Add to that an 82% passing accuracy from Silva, and Utah’s offense looked like a well-oiled machine, scoring at least two goals in all four games this month. With the Salt Lake City native on their roster, they’ll be one of the top scoring teams in the Western Conference.

Winger/MID - Luke Persenico – Peoria City

Luke Persenico was lethal throughout the 2024 season en route to an appearance in the League Two Final and a nod in the Team of the Year. Four goal contributions in four games show he’s looking to run it back this year and put in another stellar performance this summer. The highlight of his month was an outside of the box banger that’s an early candidate for Goal of the Year.

ATT - Jack Stainrod – Long Island Rough Riders

Jack Stainrod has been a natural fit in the Rough Riders’ squad, coming off a 2024 campaign with South Carolina United that saw him finish fifth in the League Two Golden Boot race. His 6-foot-2-inch frame and clinical finishing make him a potent center forward. Five goals in four games suggest he’s aiming for a higher spot than last year.

ATT – Zac Giles – San Juan SC

San Juan amassed 18 points in May and Zac Giles was an integral part to those wins. His seven goals tied him for first in League Two in May. A two-footed threat, he loves to take defenders on and dare to let him near the box with the ball at your own risk.

ATT - Sean Battistessa – San Juan SC

Just like on the pitch for San Juan, Sean Battistessa lines up next to his teammate Giles in our Team of the Month. He started the month with a bang, scoring a hattrick in their first game of the season and ended with seven goals, tying him for the league lead. With five games left in the regular season, the Sacramento Republic Academy product will look to keep the competition at bay in the Golden Boot race.
