Austin, Texas & Tampa, Fla. – The United Soccer League announced today that Lonestar SC will be competing in USL League Two in the 2025 season. The move marks a new chapter for the club, which has long been recognized as a powerhouse in youth soccer across Central Texas.
Founded in 2004 through the merger of several prominent youth soccer clubs in the Austin area, Lonestar Soccer Club was established with the goal of competing at the national level. Over the years, it has built a legacy of excellence in developing top-tier soccer talent. The club has consistently provided players with a structured and effective development pathway, beginning at the recreational level and advancing through Junior Academy, Select, and National teams. As part of its commitment to player development, Lonestar Soccer Club now offers a clear progression to the USL Academy and, with the recent addition of USL League Two, to the pre-professional ranks.
Don Cameron, Executive Director of Lonestar Soccer Club, expressed the excitement and pride the club feels about joining USL League Two. He emphasized how this partnership will offer players an invaluable opportunity to compete at the highest levels. “It’s a huge step forward in our mission to develop young talent,” Cameron explained. “We’re providing them with a national stage to showcase their skills, all while continuing our commitment to fostering excellence in Central Texas soccer.”
“We are thrilled to announce Lonestar Soccer Club’s entry into USL League Two, marking an exciting new chapter for our club,” said Ron Dennie, Director National Boys at Lonestar Soccer Club. “We are incredibly proud of our current players and alumni, and this opportunity represents a significant step forward in our mission to provide them with the highest level of pre-professional competition and a pathway to further their soccer careers.”
For Lonestar Soccer Club, joining USL League Two provides a platform for both current players and alumni. The league will create a dynamic environment where former Lonestar players now competing at higher levels can return to compete alongside the club's brightest academy talent.
"Lonestar SC provides players a clear pathway for players to chase their dreams," Joel Nash, Senior VP of Youth and Pre-Professional Properties, said. "We're really excited to welcome them to League Two, where they'll be able to provide those opportunities to their community."
The addition of USL League Two further strengthens Lonestar’s player development pyramid, offering a clear pathway from grassroots soccer to the pre-professional game. With the support of our partnership with San Antonio FC at the USL Championship level, players now have a seamless transition from local youth clubs to top-tier professional soccer. This comprehensive pathway, spanning from recreational to USL League Two, provides invaluable exposure and experience for players aspiring to advance to the pre-professional ranks.
With a rich history of producing elite players, Lonestar Soccer Club's entry into USL League Two’s Lone Star division represents a powerful commitment to shaping the future of soccer in Central Texas.
