Kansas City club celebrating its 30-year anniversary with an introduction to League Two

Kansas City, Ks. & Tampa, Fla. – The United Soccer League announced today that the Santafé Wanderers will join USL League Two beginning in the 2025 season.

The club was originally established in 1995 as Club de Fútbol Chihuahua, but was eventually renamed the Santafé Wanderers when club ownership was transferred from one of the original founders to his son, and current club owner, Lorenzo Cadena Jr. The team’s name comes from the Santa Fe Trail, which connects Missouri to Santa Fe, New Mexico, in honor of the club’s local heritage and cultural ties to Mexico.

The club’s mission is to empower and uplift the KCK community through soccer, fostering personal development, teamwork, and leadership among youth. They aim to create a safe and inclusive environment that promotes physical health, social cohesion, and educational opportunities, ultimately contributing to the urban development and well-being of the community. By leveraging the power of the beautiful game, the club strives to inspire the next generation to reach their full potential and to cultivate a sense of pride and unity within the community.

"We are thrilled to be joining USL League Two in 2025. After years of competing and establishing ourselves in local amateur leagues, we are excited to take this next step in our journey,” said Lorenzo Cadena Jr., Club Owner. “Joining the most prestigious pre-professional soccer league in North America is the perfect way to celebrate our 30th anniversary as a club while honoring the vision of our founders and the enduring spirit of our community."

The Santafé Wanderers will play their home matches in Kansas City, Kansas, as a member of the Central Conference.

“The Santafé Wanderers have been a mainstay in the area’s amateur leagues and youth scene, so we are really excited to welcome them to League Two as they continue to look for new ways to compete,” said Joel Nash, SVP of Youth and Pre-Professional Properties. “The club has great character and honors its local heritage and culture through soccer, and now by growing to join League Two, they can continue to do so in our league.”
