Springfield, Ill. & Tampa, Fla. – The United Soccer League announced today that Springfield FC will be competing in USL League Two starting in the 2025 season.
Springfield FC was founded in 2011 with a goal of developing elite soccer players, promoting community involvement, and providing high-quality athletic entertainment. The club aims to build a program that maximizes every player's potential on and off the field, while also creating and maintaining a positive relationship with the Springfield community.
“I’m excited to elevate the competitive level of soccer in our area through this pre-professional platform, which is well renowned for its quality and exposure during the path to pro,” Frankie Rodriguez, Springfield FC Owner and Founder, said. “In joining USL League Two, we will be able to provide our players the opportunity to gain experience and maintain a high level of competitiveness.”
“We aim to create a professional environment that supports player development, staff growth, and fan engagement through the league. We are excited to be given the opportunity to be part of its expansion and to draw talented players to the Springfield area to compete at the elite pre-professional level.”
Springfield FC will join the Heartland Division when they begin play in 2025.
“The love for soccer burns bright in the Midwest, and we’re happy to welcome Springfield FC to League Two,” said Joel Nash, SVP of Youth and Pre-Professional Properties. “The club has been committed to growing the game in Springfield, and their expansion into League Two will be the next step in that commitment, as they provide high level opportunities to their community.”
