ATHENS, Ga. - Today the USL announced that Athens United Soccer Association will begin play in USL League Two and the USL W League in 2024. Founded in 1972, Athens United is one of the oldest continuously operating soccer clubs in Georgia.

For over 50 years, the club has operated with a focus on youth development of players aged four to 19, offering options for players of all levels of play soccer.

“We’re thrilled to embark on this new chapter,” Michael Crain, President of Athens United, said. “This expansion marks a significant milestone, offering unparalleled opportunities for local talent to shine on a pre-professional stage.”

The club’s mission is to enhance the Athens community, promoting healthy activity and a love for the beautiful game. Now, with the addition of elite pre-professional teams, players that want a more competitive environment will be able to challenge themselves at an elite level.

Athens United will compete in the South Central Division in the 2024 season.
