Large Midvale youth club to add USL senior team

MIDVALE, Utah - Today the USL announced that Utah Avalanche will begin play in USL League Two in 2024. The club will play in the ever-expanding Mountain Division in the upcoming season.

Founded in 2001 as a women-only club, Utah Avalanche added a men’s program in 2020, merging Forza FC and AFC Apex’s nearby setups. The club has now grown to over 5,000 members across the Wasatch front competing in recreational, academy and competitive programs.

“Adding USL programming is an exciting step for our organization as we continue to find new and unique ways to promote our members,” Stephen Hofer, Salt Lake Director, said. “From helping our players learn how to tie their boot laces, to providing them a stage to showcase themselves on a professional level, we want to help with it all.”

An already-established youth club in the area, the Avalanche are focused on a holistic development model that thrives on competition.

“We are really looking forward to joining League Two. Being a member of such an elite platform will really benefit our membership,” said Avalanche Technical Director Jimmie Powell. "This opportunity gives our youth players a first team for which to aspire and rounds out the player pathway within the club.  It's a big challenge and we look forward to earning our stripes.”

“We’re really excited to welcome the Avalanche to League Two,” Joel Nash, USL SVP of Youth and Pre-Professional Properties, said. “There’s a lot of talent in Utah County, and I’m really excited to see how they stack up in the division.
