Community football club to create competitive team for League Two play

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Today the USL announced that Hattiesburg FC will begin play in USL League Two in 2024, expanding the league’s footprint in the South.

Hattiesburg Futbol Club was established in 1980, opening themselves to the community and developing everyone regardless of ability or background. The club’s mission is to give everyone the chance to simply pick up a soccer ball and play. In the club’s history, they’ve offered numerous recreational, academy and select programs.

“HFC is very excited about joining USL 2,” Michael Reed, Hattiesburg FC President, said. “Not only are we excited by the prospect of bringing a great level of soccer to the organization, but also about the potential impact this could have on our community in an ever-growing soccer city.”

The club aims to use their participation in League Two to elevate promising talent from within their organization, for those players that excel in the program. The goal is to develop players in life – not only on the pitch.

“Player development and personal development has been at the core of this club for a long time, and that’s why we’re so excited to have them in League Two,” Joel Nash, USL SVP of Youth and Pre-Professional Properties, said. “The coaches they have are experienced, and it’s another chance to continue to grow the league in Mississippi.”
