The central defender caused havoc all season for the historic club

TAMPA – Today USL League Two announced that Flint City Bucks defender Hugo Bacharach has won the 2023 USL League Two Defender of the Year award.

Bacharach, the key figure in the Bucks’ defense, helped the club to seven clean sheets over the course of the League Two regular season.

He came up big again in the playoffs, thwarting previously prolific attacks in Fort Wayne FC, Chicago City SC and Des Moines Menace en route to the semifinal match against eventual champions Ballard FC. His tackling was an overwhelming force that could appear at any moment, as he was given the freedom to pursue the ball from his left central defensive spot. More often than not, that meant the Bucks getting the ball in an advantageous position.

He added two goals from his position, including a Goal of the Week winner in Week 8.

The Benicassim, Spain native is set to play for Indiana University this fall.

The award was given based on voting results from a poll delivered to USL League Two clubs before the 2023 Playoffs.

Other Players Receiving votes: Reid Sproat (FWA), Nick Dang (LIR), Matthew Senanou (CHI), Hosei Kijima (SRQ), Josh Jones (OCN), Lesia Thetsane (BAL), Nathan Simeon (SFG)
