USL League Two has been the host of some incredible matchups. This season, League Two is highlighting some potentially electric matchups coming this season in the Head 2 Head series. Some matchups you know well – Reading United AC vs Ocean City Nor’Easters, Capital City Atletico vs Ballard FC – others will be fighting for pride and success with neighboring clubs. Here are some of your 2023 Head 2 Head matches:
The Battle of Boston, starting from last season when both teams competed in the same division for the first time. Boston City did the double over the Bolts last season, with an aggregate score of 4-1. Unlike last season, both teams will be fully in midseason form by the time they square off this year. They'll play for the first time on June 28th, and again on July 7th.
The Central Florida Derby is set to begin this year as Swan City SC joins the fray in USL League Two. Nona FC will be the early favorites, as they had a dominant regular season in their division before being knocked out in the early stages of the playoffs. They'll be back with a hunger, and asserting themselves in their local area is the first step. Swan City, meanwhile, will be looking to make their own mark in Central Florida. We won't have to wait long for the duel, as these teams will play each other twice in the month of May.
The Pacific Northwest Derby was electric all season last year. Only one team was able to defeat Ballard FC in the regular season - Divisional winners Capital FC Atletico. The League Two veterans handled their business, and found themselves in the top spot at the end of the year. They're set to go at it twice again this year, and both will be hoping they're in the mix for the top spot again when those days come around. They'll square off on June 30th and July 12th.
No Head 2 Head list would be complete without League Two's oldest rivalry. It predates most American soccer rivalries - the two opponents took the field against each other for the first time in 1997. The rivalry has seen some of the very best to do it in our league. John McCarthy, Tyler Miller, Emil Cuello, Frantzdy Pierrot, JJ Williams, Deshorn Brown, and many more have made their mark in League Two by playing against their bitter rival. These teams will square off on June 3rd and June 24th.
This Battle for the Bayou is set to be another thriller, after the games last season went the way of LA Krewe. No longer newcomers to this league, both clubs will look to either gain control, in Parish's case, or maintain it, for Krewe. The clubs will play three times this season - once in each month of the summer. Their first matchup will be on May 13th.
