FLINT, Mich. — The Flint City Bucks have re-signed Gonzaga University attacker Wylie Trujillo for the upcoming 2023 USL League Two season, pending league and federation approval.

“I am thrilled that Wylie has committed to the Bucks again this summer,” said Andy Wagstaff, set to return for his fourth year as head coach. “He is a fabulously talented footballer with a personality that encapsulates our core values.  He’s a warrior on the pitch, and he’s a team player and a servant leader off it. We just got considerably better by re-signing Wylie.”

Trujillo was among the Bucks’ most consistent contributors last summer, from the USL2 season opener, when he scored a 20-yard rocket, through the national semifinal in Des Moines, Iowa.

“I chose the Bucks again because of the quality players that are recruited each year,” Trujillo said of rejoining the team. “Backed up by the great coaching and amazing staff that run the organization, there isn’t a better USL League Two program to be part of for the summer. I hope to continue the winning tradition in Flint — going one step further than we did last season and achieving a fift national championship. I can’t wait to play in front of the best USL2 fans in the country!”

In his sophomore season with Gonzaga this past fall, Trujillo started 17 matches — notching three goals and an assist. He played both the spring and fall seasons in 2021, starting 27 of a possible 28 matches while tallying another three goals and three assists.

"Wylie can play any attacking position,” said Zags coach Paul Meehan upon his signing. “He’s savvy in and around the penalty area, with the ability to score or make the final pass before a goal-scoring opportunity. He covers a lot of ground and can impact the game defensively."

Before college, Trujillo played three preparatory seasons for Shattuck-St. Mary's School in Faribault, Minnesota. He scored 22 goals in both his sophomore and junior years, serving as a team captain during his final two seasons. In summer 2019, he helped the school’s U-16/17 academy side advance from their group in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy playoffs.

As a freshman at St. Pius X High School in his native Albuquerque, New Mexico, he scored 14 goals and was named to the all-district first team.
