OAKLAND, Calif. – Oakland Roots SC announced on Tuesday it had signed Javier Bedolla-Vera to a USL Academy Contract for the remainder of the 2022 USL Championship season. The Newark, California native, who featured for 1974 Newark FC before becoming joining Roots SC’s USL League Two club Project 51O, is the youngest player in Oakland’s history at 15 years, 45 days old.

“Javier has shown immense quality and professionalism since joining Project 51O,” said Roots SC Technical Director Jordan Ferrell. “This is how we acknowledge his commitment and growth over the past year and continue the work with him and his family of pushing towards his highest level.”

Bedolla-Vera has made five starts in USL League Two this season for Project 51O and scored his first goal for the side on June 22 against Central Valley Fuego 2 in a 4-1 victory. Bedolla-Vera was also recently selected to take part in NorCal Premier’s prestigious Player Development Program (PDP) U15 State Pool three-day residential training camp in Davis.

Bedolla-Vera is the fifth player to join Roots SC as a USL Academy signing this season. Among them are current El Salvador U-20 international Javier Mariona and goalkeeper Timothy Syrel, who made his USL Championship debut as a substitute on May 21 in a 1-0 win against the LA Galaxy II at Laney Stadium.
