We've already had one thriller at kickoff - let's look at three more!

After a thrilling 3-1 affair between NoVa FC and Commonwealth Cardinals FC in our first night of League Two soccer, we now turn towards the bulk of this extended Week 1. On Saturday and Sunday, seven matches will take place all across the country to kick off our first multi-match weekend.

We've identified three matches you'll certainly want to keep your eye on as we head into this first weekend. From the cold of Minneapolis, to a local Louisiana derby, to our first West Coast game in two years, we couldn't be more excited about these contests. All three matches will be streamed on ELEVEN.

Minneapolis City SC vs. Des Moines Menace - May 8, 3:00 p.m. CDT

We’ve had this game circled since it was announced, and circled it again after the two teams squared off in the U.S. Open Cup. In that match, the League Two newcomers Minneapolis City opened the scoring with a long-range free kick that stunned the crowd in attendance. The lead wouldn’t last, as Des Moines scored four furious goals to win the match 4-2 and advance in the tournament.

Both teams came in at Top 10 in the league’s initial Top 25 – The Crows at No. 9 and the Menace at No. 2. The defending champions of the league and one of the most anticipated  expansion teams in League Two will play in the first League Two game at Edor Nelson Field, in Minneapolis. It’ll be impossible to pass up, as the two teams will surely become quick Deep North divisional rivals.

LA Krewe vs. LA Parish AC – May 8, 7:00 p.m. CDT

The Mid South Division may be one of the most hotly contested divisions in League Two, and it starts with this Louisiana derby. The home fields of these teams are only 62 miles apart – a quick hour drive on I-10.

Neither Krewe nor Parish have played any League Two matches – LA Parish hasn’t even kicked a ball in competition yet. Krewe are coming in as champions in their previous amateur league, and are looking to make their mark in League Two. With Mississippi Brilla, Little Rock Rangers, Texas United and Blue Goose SC looming elsewhere in the schedule, both teams will be fighting for dominance, and eventually, a playoff spot.

Marin FC Legends vs. Project 51O – May 8, 3:00 p.m. PDT

Both clubs have branded themselves as developmental properties – Marin FC Legends has been in soccer development since 2004, and Project 51O is tied to USL Championship’s Oakland Roots. This west coast battle will be the first time two teams on our pacific coast have played since FC Golden State Force defeated Southern California Seahorses on July 13, 2019.

After two years without any League Two soccer in California, San Rafael will welcome 51O to challenge a club that’s giving their players a pathway to professional soccer. Plus, it kicks off early enough for east coast fans to not adjust their bedtimes!
