TAMPA, Fla. & BATON ROUGE, La. - The United Soccer League (USL) today announced it has awarded a USL League Two franchise to a group based in Baton Rouge. The Louisiana-based club will compete in League Two’s MidSouth Division beginning in the 2022 season.
"We are very excited to join the United Soccer League organization,” said club co-owner Rafael Amaya Jr. “The addition of a League Two team in Baton Rouge is a compliment to the rich history of soccer in Baton Rouge. The League has a rich history in paving the way for many great players to make it to the next level. This is a new level to the Baton Rouge area that will enhance the community by focusing on a mission that develops individuals professionally and personally."
The club’s mission is to bring their unique community together to celebrate food, festivals, and sport. Set to take the field on May 22nd, the club will operate in the Greater-Baton Rouge Area to use the platform of sports to make a positive impact on the community, and provide a pathway in South Louisiana for players to continue to grow and reaching their dreams of playing professional soccer. This club will enhance development opportunities for elite level players and local businesses, providing a unique experience to the local community.
