FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The United Soccer League (USL) today announced Commonwealth Cardinals FC as the latest club to join USL League Two. The Virginia-based club will compete in League Two’s Eastern Conference during the 2022 season.
“The opportunity to join USL League Two is a privilege and a reward for all the hard work our team and the city of Fredericksburg has put in over the past months and years,” said Gilberto Baez, President & Owner of Commonwealth Cardinals FC. “The opportunity to bring USL League Two soccer to the fans and players is extremely humbling and we look forward to continuing to help provide a platform for players to reach their "next level". A thank you goes out to all the members of Commonwealth Cardinals FC, the city of Fredericksburg and the surrounding areas of the great Commonwealth of Virginia.”
Founded in 2021, Commonwealth Cardinals FC was established to provide quality soccer programming to elite athletes in the greater Fredericksburg community. The newly founded club prides itself on its holistic player development model, which centers on an understanding that all athletes have different needs and capabilities within the game. As such, Commonwealth Cardinals FC creates programming that is individualized and tailored to each of its players in an effort to equip its players with the skills needed to reach the next level of their game.
The Virginia-based club aims to create a platform that provides growth opportunities to players based on the merit and potential of their play. The club’s well-rounded programming and focus on individualized training fosters a positive playing and learning environment that is conducive to long-term player development and personal growth both on and off the pitch. Through a comprehensive understanding of the game, Commonwealth Cardinals FC hopes to establish a solidified pathway for its players, coaches and staff to reach the highest levels of their soccer careers.
In joining USL League Two, Commonwealth Cardinals FC will enhance its mission of player development by giving its members direct access to a proven pathway toward a career in professional soccer. The club’s collective membership will also see the benefits of joining League Two as the USL provides pathways for coaches, executives, club staff and communities to continue their growth within the game.
