Fifth meeting with Union Omaha this season as playoffs continue Saturday

The USL League One Playoffs presented by TwinSpires continues Saturday when FC Tucson heads to Nebraska to take on Union Omaha in the semifinals.

A late goal from Deri Corfe secured victory for the club against the Richmond Kickers in the quarterfinals. With the win, the club will face Omaha for the fifth time this season and the third time in Nebraska.

The semifinal will kickoff at 3 p.m. at Werner Park, and will stream live on ESPN+.

In the last meeting between the two clubs, an early penalty converted by Charlie Dennis secured the 1-0 victory for Tucson. All matches played between the two this season have been decided by just one goal.

Defender Noah Franke, who played his college soccer at Creighton in Omaha, slotted a cross on the ground for João Delgado. Delgado was knocked down by a defender in the box, and Maxi Schenfeld blasted the ball into the back of the net. But the referee waved off the advantage -- and the goal -- and instead awarded FC Tucson a penalty kick.

Dennis easily converted the kick.

Union Omaha (14-5-9, 51 points) secured first place in USL League One standings this season, and were awarded home field advantage in the playoffs. They also received a bye week, with their last match taking place on October 30.

On October 30, Omaha was able to grab a point against North Texas SC. North Texas Forward Kamungo sprinted up the field from his own half, taking on four Omaha defenders, to open the scoring in the 35th minute.

Omaha midfielder John Murphy was fouled in the box and was awarded a penalty kick from the referee. Nick Firmino stepped up and converted the penalty in the 90th minute, securing a draw with North Texas.

FC Tucson (11-10-7, 40 points) secured fourth place in USL League One after a 4-2 win over the Richmond Kickers on October 30. The club did not secure a bye week, and once again played Richmond at Kino North Stadium on November 6.

The winner will play in the USL League One Championship match against the winner of the Greenville Triumph SC versus Chattanooga Red Wolves SC.
